God... and the house in the sky. The two lessons of today.

They say you have to learn at least one thing everyday. Well, today, I've experienced two shocking moments.

GOD
First, The weekly meeting with my classe mates was special this time. We have been going out, here and there, for the last 10 weeks celebrating our last year in University. But today, the meeting was special. Today we had a question: Where has God been for the last 4 years? I have to admit that, when it comes to God, only few people show up. As He said: Many are called, but few are chosen, I am so glad I was one of them, because I've learned a lot tonight. I've learned that sometimes, when we need an angel to come and save us from something, God makes us angels and makes us help other people and we don't even notice! I've also learned that my life turns into a disaster when I forget about Him.
I believe because I want to, and when I believe that He is on my side and that He helps me and supports me, my life goes better.
When I trust Him, He becomes my only friend, the one and only I can trust and the one and only that will never fail me.

THE HOUSE IN THE SKY
And the second thing I've done tonight is almost flying! I MEAN IT. I went to the house in the sky. This is one of the initiatives of
Un Techo Para Mi País (A Ceiling For My Country), the NGO that fights poverty in Urugay, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and El Salvador.

They put a HOUSE in the AIR, seriously, the house is 12 meters from the ground and volunteers are actually living there! WHY? The aim is to sensitize the people, the need is real. As it says in their adds: Don't look up, poverty is around you.

Un Techo Para El Salvador started 5 years ago, after the earthquakes of 2001. This group of volunteers, insipired in Un Techo Para Chile started building houses for poor people in rural areas. Now, Un Techo Para El Salvador is one NGO that help poor people to have a house that they can turn into a home.
Just one clarification: I am totaly againts givin gifts to the poor. They actualy have to pay a simbolic amount of money for the house (that is not even 10% of it's real cost), and the have to help the volunteers in building it.
And what is behind the house? Is the image of Jesus, The Savior. My country's name comes from Him.

You know you are living AIESEC when... (2)

During the last days, I’ve spoken to some people that “knew” (or at least, they think they knew) AIESEC in the previous years.

I felt really sad hearing comments like:
Everybody gets drunk at AIESEC parties.
Don’t you make parties anymore?
What about the huge debt you guys had?
Are you getting in trouble again?
AIESEC is not worth it.

Not a single comment about @XP (of course it’s new concept), or about what we learn during the conferences, all the contacts we make, all the good things that happen in AIESEC.

Seriously, I felt really sad by hearing those things. And the worst part is that they didn’t believe me when I told them that now days we have a really good MC and committed members.

Why am I sharing this?
Because AIESEC will be what we make of it.

Now days, in El Salvador I see that there is a lot of high potential people motivated and working in every team. Honestly, right now, I cannot complain about most members because they ARE doing his/her job. It will be really hard to take that image off the minds of those persons, but it is possible.

The added value of writing in your CV that you are an AIESEC member will depend on AIESEC’s reputation, and WE build that reputation in our DAILY job and decision, in every mail we send, every phone call we make, every meeting we attend, the way we conduce our lives, the way we ARE.
AIESEC will add value to your life (and your CV) if you add value to the life of others.

Our values: activating leadership, demonstrating integrity, enjoying participation, living diversity, striving for excellence, acting sustainable will become habits after a while if we practice them every day, and if we help our teammates practice them. That's when AIESEC rocks. That’s when AIESEC is worth it. That is when you know you are living AIESEC.
